On the Pole - Elizabeth Petts (2016)

On the Pole - Elizabeth Petts (2016)

Senior Portfolio

April 28, 2016

As I sit here, the night before the biggest photo presentation of my college career, I start to think back to when I started my path as a photographic arts major. While it sometimes pains me to look back at my old photographs from basic, those images are the base of my photography. Back then, I did not have to worry about what the subject was, as long as it fit the criteria of the assignment, it would work. For many semesters, I could shoot whatever I wanted to. Sometime between then and now, I started trying to shoot what my professors wanted; it wasn't always what I wanted or liked. I wasn't always proud of my finished product. This last semester was my senior portfolio. I got to choose whatever topic I wanted. So, I chose to reach back into to a type of photography that I have always enjoyed: documentary. I had the wonderful opportunity to focus on an interesting topic I experienced a few years back: pole dancing. This semester was all about me. Showing who I am as a photographer. Something that over the past few years, I have drifted from. I am grateful for my wonderful professors that have guided me over the past 6 years. I am very thankful for Teaze Dance & Fitness and Norman Pole Dance for allowing me to come into their studios and document another side to pole dancing. I am ready to start a new chapter in my photography career.
